Modern corsets

Observed under the view of historical corsets certain design-details of so called 'modern' corsets, under the aspects of economic manufacturing and standardization, got simplified or got completely lost. In contrary to that, new design-details got added to modern corsets of today, which had been never asked in the past. The reason is that the corset of former times was never seen as a decorative, presentable part of a dress.

Corsets and fashion - A change in mind

The comeback of corsets in today's fashion-shows is mainly explained rather by the fact that a new 'old' sense of content was revived, something the french people call 'presence', that means an impression of a magnificent appearance and that is also able to hold its attention for the duration of the event.

The charm and fascination of this theme can be seen first hand in the opportunity to shape the masculine body with desired feminine attributes. It is obviously self-explaining that on this background a long corset with cups and shoulder-straps gives some remarkable advantages versus a normal under- or overbust model. Straightfront-S-Line-Corset 'Solveigh' (Stem-waist)The picture shows the overbust-corset 'Solveigh' with cups. The corset is made from red Velvet-Satin with added silken lace trim from Milan, and additional with artificial beads. The front-closure is covered.

This corset is designed versus the other S-line-corsets with an integrated and precisely adjusted 5 cm-(2 inches) stem-waist. The necessary waist-band is fixed at the inside, but designed in the same way as the visible sash-trim at the outside.

The silhouette of all S-line-corsets I designed is the result of my cut- and line-shape, disclaiming the use of special formed or heavy steel-bones.

Straightfront-S-Line-Corset 'Samira'

The picture shows the S-line-corset 'Samira', designed in a modified Empire- style and made of red silk, but without a front-busk closure. The fastener is replaced by a wide front-planchette.

This corset-variation is also charac- terized by an extreme elongation in the back and additionally by the cups and typical shoulder-straps. The last one offers a comfortable support to create an upright S-line posture.

In consideration of the body-proportions this corset creates no restrictions to the chest. Easy breathing is possible also with an extreme tight laced waist and a remarkable waist-hip-ratio. The nice silhouette is not the result of extra stiff steel boning, but only by the cut-shape and pattern-design.
